The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Derbyshire is seeking volunteers to join the Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) Scheme. ICVs are members of the public who help ensure detainees are treated fairly, their rights are upheld, and custody processes remain transparent and accountable. The role includes:Unannounced custody visitsVisiting police custody suites to check welfare, rights and entitlements, and speak with custody staff and detainees where appropriate. Custody Record Reviews (CRRs)Reviewing custody records to help identify good practice, learning opportunities, and areas for improvement. CRRs focus on themes such as detainee welfare, risk assessments, and the treatment of vulnerable individuals. Interested?You don’t need any special qualifications or experience – we’re looking for people from all backgrounds and communities across Derbyshire who are: Volunteers are typically asked to complete at least one custody visit and one CRR (conducted via MS Teams or Zoom) per month, completed on a rota basis.
